It's General Sessions, or criminal court, in the Boro this week. To celebrate, I'm thinking about having another smack-down. This time, favorite trials.
First one is from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Trials have progressed a bit since the middle ages, though witch hunts, sadly, still abound.

From working in Spartanburg, I seem to remember the way SC courts work, it's up to the solicitor to call the cases he/she wants to try during session, like, they don't have a docket that you know "so-and-so's trial is scheduled for May 5" or something like that, is that still the case?
Always seemed a bit unfair to me ...
I remember the Greenwood solicitor, "Townes Jones," what a name.
Yep. Only state in the Union that allows the prosecutor (called Solicitor here) gets to set the docket. And it is very, very unfair (but not according to the State Supreme Court, which is the only vote that counts). Puts a lot of pressure on people to plead guilty because, even if they actually didn't do anything wrong (not a frequent event, but it does happen), they have to sit in court for two weeks at a time every couple of months, sometimes for as much as a year to get a trial. Think it's hard to keep a job? Fortunately, our particular prosecutors in Colleton County are pretty decent folks, and the damage is kept to a minimum.
You gotta include sompin' from this movie for your smack down:

And there is this one I use in class: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XPXBlKEucU
So there's that
I think you'll be seeing Vinny in there. The other one? Well, we'll see.
i love stephen hawking; i want his brain
sorry, this is the only type of trial i love

But Mags, if you had Steven Hawking's brain, he'd die.
that's okay; i'll take his "jobs" over mine any day.
and if give the opportunity, i'd move to england tomorrow.
Davis spent a Summer studying at Cambridge. He loved England, but said the food wasn't very good.
i think bangers and mash is pretty darn good.
And if you check out the food listed on this site, you'll salivate.

(one of my top three fav p.f. songs too)
The third is from an "Odd Couple" episode in which Felix describes what ASSUME means
Okay, the Stoogies do rock, and I always liked the Odd Couple...
...but that Pink Floyd one... Well, I just don't have enough hallucinagins to fully appreciate it.
don't need to be on anything to enjoy floyd.
well, we'll see after Easter break when I show it to my English classes. If the students are totally lost, then, yes, it's a film best viewed whilst on something such as...melting pot...mushrooms yum
Maybe don't need to, but couldn't hurt. AndyMan once told me after he'd attended a Grateful Dead concert that he could see how recreational drugs would've enhanced the show.
