Whose Your Daddy?

Been following a lively discussion on Kate's Blog, Out in Left Field, about birth control and parental rights. Obviously, this is a very important topic. Jodi, a friend from work, sent me the video below, advertising a new DNA test. If I can just help one poor soul out there...

That beats the whole plus or minus thing.

I've been saving "the" test with the positive sign still visible in a baggie for the past (almost) nine years.

Can't wait for that conversation.

Out of the wreckage of my marriage, She Who Must Not be Named did have her moments. After our first two kids were born, Tina'd been on the pill for three years. We'd had a wild night in NYC, and she was seven hours late taking her pill that one time (I s'pose she coulda been lying, but she was not, initially, pleased with the result, so I believe her).

A few weeks later, she suspected she might be pregnant. Obviously, it wasn't her first rodeo, so it wasn't stab in the dark (so to speak). She got a home pregnancy test which confirmed her suspicions.

She went to her OB/GYN to essentially inform him. He looked at her quizzically and told her she couldn't possibly be pregnant. She said that, after three pregnancies and two child births, she was pretty sure she was. She explained that she was a day late on one of her pills. He explained that the pills were strong, and it was very unlikely she could be pregnant if she only missed the one. She said she was sure. He asked if she'd take a home preg test. She had. Still not convinced, he asked her if she'd done it right. She replied, "Why, no, Dr. Fontana, I held the stick under my husband's urine stream by accident".

Heard about archaic law on NPR
tonight...it is illegal in Massachusetts to be on birth control without wearing a wedding ring.
Seeing as I was born in Boston, guess my parents did have a legal right to practice safe sex. Lucky for me, they're Catholic.

Yeah, lot of unconstitutional laws still on the books. Last time I check a couple of years ago, S.C. Education Code still had a voucher law on the books. All the pols talk about passing a voucher law, and it's already on the books. Passed shortly after U.S. Supremes in Brown v. Board of Education declared segregation illegal, SC passed it. A federal district court almost immediately declared it unconstitutional, and it's never been funded, but last time I checked, it had never been repealed either. I actually called the office of the Secretary of SC Education and asked for my money, since my oldest was in private school. They told me there was no money, and the law was unconstitutional anyway (which I knew). I figured it was worth a shot.

Amy, your Mass. law sounds similar to the CT law that was declared unconstitutional in CT Family Planning Services v. Griswold, which helped lay the foundation for Roe v. Wade. CT had passed a law saying that everyone, including, presumably, married monogamous couples, had to get a prescription for condoms, ostensibly for "public health". Obviously makes no sense for monogamous married couples, does it? Now they give 'em out in schools. Not saying it's bad, just saying it's different.

That's way too much for me to read PV.

Not sure why I'm commenting anyway since birth control has never been one of my problems...

Yeah, I know. Running my mouth off again. Couldn't help it. Hey, there's still the Henry cartoon, anyway.

Oh, and the video's funny and not too long. Really.

Is your pic age regressing on purpose?

Gee I always thought it went like this with you and she/her/no name: After Baby #1, you tried Birth Control. After Baby #2 you got snippage. After Babies 3 and 4 she got fixed. No baby #5.

Perhaps, I'm getting it wrong....

I'd like to know why the white kids are talking wigger...?

This was the subject of Murray's show on Tuesday. And I watched it...

John, I just got tired of the other pic, and liked that one. I think I was 13 in that pic. I'll replace it after a couple of weeks.

Andy, it was the pill followed by a decision to have a kid; the pill again followed by a decision to have a kid; then the pill followed by a lapse of judgment. I got snipped after the twins were born. The lads were the best mistake we ever made.

Star, I think that's all part of the Maury Povich angle. Polite discussion does not make for popular t.v.

Mags, thanks for the update.

Yeah, I get it, but they are terrible wiggactors!

Oh and Kate...I read your posts about your s-e-x talks, and looks like you made some gay enemies. Shame on you for not telling your young children about alternative lifestyles. Really, what were you thinking???

Mr. Matt said...

Yes, SuperDave the Birth control thing was a bit of a joke/statement/ about the fidelity of your ex. Funny stuff, huh?

Star, it was a difficult role for our poor pale actors friends. Cut them a small break for a min-izzle.
Don't worry about Kate, she's tough as nails. Also, it is difficult for me to imagine anyone who has paid her any attention to believe she is a homophobe. She IS an idiot-ophobe, and idiots come in all races, genders and sexual orientations. Still, she gives the good, the bad and the ugly a forum by allowing anonymous posts.

Yeah, Ange, I caught the joke. It's a good thing they all look just like me.

kate said...

Star, that made me laugh. I'm sure hoping it was supposed to.

Yeah, I've had the gay talk with the boys because they have a gay aunt and two gay cousins. Just not the gay *sex* talk. Not yet.

That'll be next week.

I do believe those idiot comments were from right-winging homophobes who were being sarcastic. That's how I read it.

Let em all come and act like the fools they are...

Uh, can we talk about movies again?

Chase, there you are. Right, movies. Uh... what? Oh, yeah, movies are good.

...I suppose the moniker "fudgepacker" ought to have been a clue...
