Swords, Sorcery: Get a Virtual Life

Why use crack, when you lose hours of useful time without leaving your living room? I'd reformed. Really, I had. Hadn't touched it in more than a year. Then that smarty-pants Quaker mentioned katanas. Katanas, yeah, those are a kind of sword that you can get in some of those Final Fantasy videogames. Maybe I'll just start a new file, you know, just for old times' sake. One minute of Final Fantasy is too many, a million isn't enough. Twelve step programs? Shoot, twelve steps won't even get you to the Aerodrome. If anyone needs me, I'll be on my couch until Saturday, when it's time to pick up the twins. If I remember.

Surrender to the siren song of bright, sparkly magic, giant rideable chickens and men who look more like women than the women do. Once you've finished that, don't forget Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne and the Shadow Hearts series. There's also Ico (if you can find it) and The Shadow of the Colossus, neither are exactly role-playing, but they're just so very good when it comes to story and emotional impact. There's also Okami for just a revolutionary gameplay experience.

There, that should keep you occupied until well into next week.

QJ and SD,
Look out the window guys, life be passing you by. For God's sake, go outside and sniff the azaleas or rake the lawn. Seriously, I just came inside for the first time in six hours, and it's only because it's dark and I can no longer see. Move away from the TV.

QJ, thanks for the tips. I'm betting a trip to Charleston is involved here.

Amy, just as soon as I get to a save point...

I like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City ... it's like living in Miami Vice, and I'm always amazed how I set off with the intent of "I'm just going to do the mission, pick up the package and return it to the boss" ... and the next thing you know, I'm on the second floor of the mall with a high powered rifle picking off cops and ducking the spotlights from the circling choppers ... happens every time.

Man ... SD, I see how this kind of thing just sort of "happens" to some of your clients.

I looked out the window and it tried to kill me with allergens. So until baseball season officially starts and I really decide if I'm going to forgive them this year for the strike of 1994, then I'm sticking with my Gametap account and lots of fun console games.

Besides, I get enough outdoor time mowing my meadow...er, backyard, and attending to my damn pool.

Yeah, Chase, GTA: Vice City is fun. Gory, horrendous, fun. I did get a little pang of remorse selling drugs out of the back of an icecream truck, though.

QJ, baseball season began last night in Japan. BoSox beat the A's in ten innings, 6-5, off a Manny Ramirez two run double. I'm surprised Chase- a huge Saw-ox fan- didn't provide the update.

I have a running obsession does that count? Look here comes a tree, I'm running past it, and here comes another tree. Not quite the same, but it does keep the weight off.

There's nothing wrong with playing video games for hours...The other day I started playing Max Payne 2 again. So I've beaten it 12 times already. I still play as long a possible without saving or dying, whichever comes first.

Oh, your addiction is every bit as insane as mine. Both are legal. Yours is probably marginally healthier than mine, and you get tee-shirts and better stories than I do.

I personally like the Baldar's Gate series. Stayed up for hours playing that one more than once. You can play with other people, so at least you don't look like a total gamer geek. And remember, you can always hook up a TV outside :)

Pong rules.

Mags and Star, gamers. Who knew? Cool. And, Star, I am a video geek. Used to get the magazines, too. I lost my FFX and FFXII guidebooks. Damn near cried.

Pong rules? Funny, Sunny.

Uhhh, wait. Do you have a gaming chair by any chance...???

Star: I freaking LOVED that series. One of the best parts about Gametap is that they offer both I and II as well as the Icewind Dale series. I've been seeing old friends once again.

Damn Blogger! I'm McJono. I have no idea why it's playing me like that.

No game chair, Star. The lads have one each at their mamma's house, though. The lads seem to have graduated from Runescape on the computer. They're Halophiles in Beaufort. I'm a PSIII dude, so it's Call of Duty 4 in the Boro. Haven't started it myself. I get killed too quickly. So, I plod along in Archades looking for license points and better equipment.

See, QJ, if you're going to do the superhero thing, you're not supposed to reveal your secret identity.

Oh, I was up before the sun, (game started at 4 a.m. MT) drinking coffee and eating English Muffins for the game ...

this morning's game was a bummer, Sox loss ...

I used to be a big gamer. When SEGA came out, I played it for hours a day, even played at a couple of all day conferences/events. I'd hook it up now and play it, but I think there's a glitch in those systems because everyone I know who has one tells me the same thing happens to him/her when he/she plays...it randomly shuts off. ...piece of crap.

IF I played daily for at least 4 hours, I'd be a millionaire now...I really envy those gamers who are paid (I mean win) at those national/international events/conferences

What systems do I have in my inventory...Let's see; I have:

Nintendo Gameboy (it still works)

Nintendo NES (hook it up often to play Ninja Gaidan)

Nintendo Ds (but sold it because I couldn't stand using that stylist as a "gun")(but just discovered Ninja Gaidan is available for it)

Nintendo Wii (still trying to figure out how to access my wireless)

SEGA Genisis

Playstation 2

Playstation Portable (which I'm getting p'oed at because I can't figure out how to use for its wireless internet)

Atari system (the original)

and the Atari classics thingy that came out four?? years ago

I think that's it...I'm not counting those joystick games.

My last true video game experience was The Smurfs by Colecovision (circa 1984). That raven was harsh.

superdave524 said...

Yeah, but Chase, the A's can't drink beer at their games anymore... They lost the opener!

Mags, you win the video console award. I've run through three or four PSII's. My oldest had a SEGA Genesis (It's thinking...), and in the house we've had GameBoy, GameBoy Advance. My babymamma has the WII and X-box. But a working Atari? Yeah, you win.

John, Colecovision? Back in the day, I'd've killed for one. Evidently in the interim you decided not to singlehandedly make Japan rich, as Mags and I have done.
