Rock Brand.

Tyler has had a couple of his buddies over at the house for about two weeks now. Every day and night except one. I may well try to claim a tax deduction for Trenton. I love 'em, but they are like locusts, eating everything in sight. World of Warcraft and the video game Rock Band keep them entertained for hours, HOURS, at a stretch. Rock Band is kinda cool. Karaoke and air-guitar (and air-drums) combined to lots of classic rock tunes. The game scores you on how well you keep the beat or hit the notes to Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation" or Bad Company's "Shooting Star". What it does not do, is grade your ability to actually sing the words. You can get a perfect score grunting, mumbling and humming no words at all. Since the score is the thing, that is exactly what the boys (the "vocalists" anyway) do. Fortunately, other than the occasional "Weee!", they seldom raise their voices over Joan's or Paul Roger's prerecorded voices. Which is nice.

I love Rock Band. Fortunately we have no gaming systems any longer, or I too would get stuck on that one.

After playing Baldur's Gate for hours upon hours, we decided to donate the PS2 to someone who had more time to waste than we did.

And here I've been wasting time on Hearts (that Ben still sucks, I beat him likes it's my job!)

SuperD, I'm willing you are begining to feel a little of the Baggett's pain, we no-doubt put a hurtin' on that pantry. I know how much those teenagers eat, and it just amazes me that they aren't all rotund! Why we never did that (oh, yeah, except the Towne Club, that was excessive)

I may get into the game, myself, Star. I got dibs on drums!

Those Towne Clubs did take a beating at our expense, didn't they? And, yeah, I'm beginning to understand the Baggett's pain. Every neighborhood needs a pantry and a parent who can tolerate chaos, I guess.

They could always just take up real instruments and learn to play rock and roll ... you know, "bought a beat-up six string, at a second-hand store, didn't know how to play it, but he knew for sure, that that one guitar, felt good in his hands ... Juke Box Hero, got stars in his eyes ... "

Theirs is a lazy generation. The Twins, at least, do play actual instruments in a garage band located, I am most grateful to say, at their mother's house.

Some battles I just refuse to fight. One of them is having all the band members at our house to play and eat our food. Our house is the house of choice for band practice.....and food.
But I don't mind it. I know: where my son is, that he's safe and not in trouble.
Being the father that I'm sure you are, I know it's a battle you don't fight either...... :)

Is this what I have to look forward to when the boys are teenagers?

The actual instruments are at their mom's house, Tam (attic/third floor), but there are always plenty of kids around and I generally feed 'em.

Yep, Kate. Those precious little boys will one day be teenagers. Teenagers, with or without screaming guitars, are a challenge.
