MCR

No, not MC5 (that was a really long time ago). My Chemical Romance. I'm taking the Lads to see MCR tonight in Birmingham, AL; their birthday present for the 13th anniversary of their birth. It's about a seven hour trip, but MCR are (arr-arr) the rage, at the moment, and I took their brother to Greenday and Blink 182 for his 13th B'Day (Took Caroline to Weezer later on). I already posted their current hit "Teenagers" a coupla weeks ago. Their are several versions of it on you-Tube (one version has been played more than 52 million times!). I used to rock, but, well, I'm significantly older now. I think I'll bring ear-plugs. Just in case.

Here's a sample of what we'll probably be hearing tonight:

The Black Parade.

I'm Not Okay.

Helena.

I'll give you a report on Friday.

Remember, if it's too loud, you're too old! Rock on Pop ... Hey, Pop Rocks! (Mikey, from the Life Cereal commercials, died after he ate Pop Rocks and drank a Coke, I read it on the Internet)

Are you going to be wearing earplugs? And are the boys going to let you actually sit with them? I'd also like to see how you dress for a MCR concert...

You're a cooler Dad than I am a Mom. Though I like MCR, it would be a stretch to sit through, let alone pay for, a ticket to their concert. Here's praying that the SpoBo mobile made it to AL, and will get you home safely.

Do I need to call the truancy officer at C.P. to explain your whereabouts?

My favorite movie mom of all time is Frances McDormand in Almost Famous. I'd be like her, outside in the car, with a whistle, screaming, "Don't do drugs!"

My mom took me to see Liberace and The Osmonds.

That explains everything, don't it?

I'd like to see how you dress for an MCR concert as well.

Can you hear me? Can you hear me now? Have your ears stopped buzzing yet?

Cool parents get to visit their kids monthly, but the cakes are checked for files. SuperD aint that cool, and that's a good thing.

Chase, Star, I ultimately did not wear earplugs. Not a show of solidarity, I just forgot to bring them. And, yeah, it was loud. 'Course, not any louder than Ted Nugent was back in '78.

How did I dress, Star and Kate? Like a dad. Big Dog shirt. Khaki sorts. White socks. To my amazement, some of the parents (yeah, there were others, I'll address that in the post), did not dress age appropriately, and, er, I doubt anyone failed to guess within a few years of their actual age.

Amy, that's for caring. 'Bob made it back okay, and the Lads and I managed to avoid killing each other (though I actually spanked Taylor once, after he essentially begged me to. Andy's right about the not over-cool bit. 'Bout twenty minutes of pouting, but we all recovered). As to avoiding truant officers: fortunately, I've got friends at the Department of Juvenile Justice... As to cool factor? You take yours surfing. How cool is that?

Liberace and the Osmonds, Kate? Oh, that's rich! Andy and I saw Jeanie C. (Harper Valley PTA) Riley in Casper, WY whilst visiting our grandmother.I do discuss drugs with the kids. Seemed to work okay with most of 'em. Got an excellent chance at Greenday. One dude was unloading his stash right in front of Oldest and his friends and me. I mean, three feet away. The speech: "Davis, it doesn't bug me that this guy is ripping from his chest several ounces of weed. People'll be smoking pot throughout the show, but you don't have to. I'll bet we have more fun than they do". Then I went and rolled down the hill at the back of the festival cite. 10 or 15 kids started doing it afterwards. We did have more fun than they did. He's probably smoked pot a few times, but only a few. Caroline? Hoo Boy. All you can do is whatever you can do, y'know? Early, yet, for the twins. Haven't so far.
