"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" Smackdown 2: No Way Out

Remember Kevin Costner? Remember when he was one of the kings of the box-office? Remember the 1980's? In 1987, Costner starred Tom Farrell, a naval liaison to the Secretary of Defense, David Brice, played by Gene Hackman. Seems that Farrell and Brice have a lover in common, Susan Atwell, played by Sean Young. Brice ends up killing Atwell over her other lover, whom Brice is unaware is Farrell. Brice wants to pin the killing on the other lover, and appoints Farrell to find out who it is. Shouldn't be hard for Farrell, since it's him. There are plot twists a-plenty in this cold-war era thriller. The old Soviet Union was a wonderful enemy.

The Cold War meant better movies, can't argue with all those Cold War flicks, from Dr. Strangelove to Red Dawn.

Terrorism movies just don't do it for me. Syriana? Does anyone know what actually happened in that movie? I had to go look it up on Wikipedia aftre seeing it.

Wolverines!! The Ruskies, they were a great movie enemy.

That's the sad thing about having no moral center: we have to define ourselves by our enemies. We might not have been right, but the Nazis and the Communists were sure enough wrong. Carthage must be destroyed!

(saw Dr. Strangelove on Netflix "instant movie" the other day. Dug it. Slim Pickens rocked and Peter Sellers apparently wasn't just the first Clouseau).

I love George C. Scott in that flick, Buck Turgidson ... good stuff.

He was great. Loved him having his bimbo take his call whilst he was "indisposed". Then after that, he did Patton. Kinda made being a general his own cottage industry.

I forgot how hot Kevin Costner was.

Lynne said...

Words cannot describe how hot he is . . .

superdave524 said...

He was good in Bull Durham, too. John says "was", Lynne says "is". I still think Grace Kelly's a babe, and she's been dead a long time. In the movies, it's always "is". Time marches on; but not in the movies.

So true. Paul Newman will always be hot.

I've got Cool Hand Luke in my Netflix queue.

there seems to be a lack of communication.

Kevin Costner lost all claims at hotness with waterworld and that billy chappel movie, for the good of the game.

Hey kevin for the good of the game retire to your little condo in colorado and bodyguard Bea Arthur or something.

YOU'VE NEVER SEEN COOL HAND LUKE? dude, where ya been?

Oh, com'n Ange, Kevin's not in some outer circle of the galaxy. He's made some odd choices, though.

Chase, I have totally seen Cool Hand Luke three or four times. I'm contemplating showing to the Lads. Only reason I'm merely contemplating it, is that they need very little encouragement to disregard authority. In fact, I'm not sure they understand the concept of it.

Sometimes actors do regret their choices.

But I look at their successes. And he has many.

The Untouchables, JFK, No Way Out, Field of Dreams, Robinhood, Bull Durham, Dances With Wolves, to name a few.

And now his band, Modern West, not bad !

True, Lynne.

Seems like the chick in the movie was pretty hot, too. At least until she got killed.

Sean Young was an "it" girl for about two years, but apparently was so hard to work with that she stopped being cast in stuff. Least that's what I heard. Anyway, she was also in "Ace Ventura", too.

You're supposed to say "Also, as well". Geez. Doesn't anyone pay attention to the language?
